Fresh Gum Removal

If you have fresh gum that is only a a couple of hours or a couple of days old you can tackle this as a do-it-yourself project. All you need is some ice and a metal scraper. Simply lay a bag of ice over any pieces of gum and let it sit for a few minutes. It will eventually turn into a hardened substance, which you should be able to peel off with the metal scraper. If the gum is stringy and not hardened, place the bag of ice on the gum for a few more minutes and retry.

Hardened or Petrified Gum Removal

Hardened or petrified gum is a different subject all together. This type of gum will appear black in color and will be absorbed into the concrete so neither a metal scraper nor ice will work. A wire brush, water, and a little elbow grease will work on a few pieces of gum but anything more than that you should probably hire a professional. Make sure you choose a pressure washing contractor with a hot water machine as hot water will melt away the gum more quickly and more efficiently. A knowledgeable contractor will sometimes have to use orange peel oil, paint stripper, or gum removal detergents to get the job done.
